Description

Throatwort, Carpenters Square, Scrofula Plant. This dainty plant is native to Europe, Central Asia and North America. Used traditionally for chronic skin ailments and lymph diseases, but proceed with caution if using internally, as it can be emetic, over stimulating to the heart and is not safe for pregnancy. Used topically, it is anti-fungal and effective for oozing rashes and boils, as well. The plant prefers partial to full sun and a moist site with plenty of summer water. The plants form a pretty spray of leaves and and bloomswith a very distinctive odor! Can reach 2-3 feet tall with very unusual rusty red/yellow flowers, which are quite stunning. A lovely addition to your Herbal Shade Garden. Prefers at least partial shade. Perennial. Hardy to zone 7.

Latin Name Scrophularia nodosa
