Description

Native to the Alps of Europe, this plant traditionally grows amongst the rocks of high alpine meadows, although it seems to thrive here at a low elevation as well. Traditionally used as a tea to treat dysentery and a preparation cooked in honey, milk and butter and was used to treat respiratory problems, including tuberculosis. In the future, it is expected that the cosmetic industry will employ edelweiss to neutralize free radicals and prevent the formation of super oxide compounds associated with the signs of aging. Due to its bioflavonoid content, the herb also strengthens the walls of capillaries and veins and can be used for other vascular problems. Perennial. Hardy to Zones 4-7.
