Black Horehound, Ballota nigra, Black Stinking Horehound. Originating from Central Asia and eventually naturalizing throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, this robust little herb is known for its disagreeable odor. Black Horehound has important medicinal properties but has fallen out of favor due to its strong taste. The aerial parts of the plant have been used traditionally to ease nausea in morning sickness and motion sickness, treat respiratory issues, calm “hysteria” and relieve gout and arthritis. The plant itself has attractive, heavily textured, round leaves and can bloom to 3 feet. It has very sweet lavender/purple flowers and will spread itself over time. Yes, the plant is a bit smelly but only if you crush the leaves and it is a lovely addition to the herb garden both in leaf and flower and the bees love it!! Prefers full to partial sun and well drained soil. Sturdy Perennial. Hardy to Zone 7.

We ship well established, healthy plants and we want them to look that way when they arrive at your doorstep and we truly believe that fast, efficient shipping is a worthwhile investment toward this goal.

Rates: Our customers East of the Rocky Mountains must use UPS 3 Day Delivery to guarantee the arrival of healthy plants.

Remember To Include A Physical Address For UPS Delivery. No PO Boxes. Our shipping rates for up to 18 PLANTS are as follows:

WEST COAST UPS GROUND: (CA, OR, WA):
$15.50 (1-9 plants) $18.50 (10-18 plants).

WEST OF THE ROCKIES UPS GROUND : (NV, ID, MT, CO, AZ, NM, WY, UT):
$18.50 (1-9 plants) $22.50 (10-18 plants)

EAST OF THE ROCKIES - UPS 3 DAY SELECT: (All Other States)
$38.50 (1-9 plants) If ordering 10 or more plants, actual shipping rates will apply. Email or call for an estimate.

Plants sold in sets, are at a discount. Please, no substitutions.

Our plants are shipped between late March and late November. We guarantee our plants will arrive in good condition and will ship them to you as quickly as possible to minimize any setback from travel.
