Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum)
Garlic Chives are used in Chinese medicine to warm the kidneys and stomach. They are also used to treat urinary incontinence, impotence, sore lower back and knees. Edible leaves are garlic flavored and tidy with pretty white blooms, great container plant. Interplanted with roses can deter aphids.

Gayfeather (Liatris spicata)
Herbaceous perennial. A good butterfly plant with spikes of purple flowers. A poultice of the tuberous root is a Native American remedy for snakebite. The root decoction helps move metabolic waste out of the system through the lymph. Hardy to zone 5.

Gentian, Tibetan (Gentiana tibetica)
Qin Jiao, Yellow Gentian. Another rare specimen from the Himalayas of Tibet and Western China. This hardy perennial has an attractive rosette of fleshy, slightly variegated leaves. The unusual tubular flowers, bluish or light greenish white in color, form at the top of a bare stem reaching 2 feet or so in full bloom.
The Tibetan Gentian has been used historically in Chinese medicine as well as Tibetan and Ayurvedic formulas. Gentian is a bitter herb commonly taken as a tea from the dried leaves to improve digestive and liver function. In TCM, it has been utilized in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and as a nervine in small doses.
This extremely hardy and rare Gentian is easier than other types to grow in a garden setting. It prefers partial shade in very hot summer areas and enjoys a moist soil . Perennial. Zone 4.

Herbaceous perennial. The tea or tincture of the flowering plant is a good urinary demulcent, anti-inflammatory and diuretic. It does not cause allergies. Grows naturally on gravelly river bars and prefers a well drained site with plenty of moisture. Hardy to zone 3.

Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis)
Traditionally used in combination with Echinacea for colds and flu. Goldenseal is a very bitter anti -microbial herb. It is strong medicine and should not be used long term but is excellent especially when used in combination with other herbs for digestive disorders, peptic ulcers, excess mucus, sinusitis, excessive menstruation, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Not to be given to pregnant women or patients with high blood pressure. Goldenseal is a woodland herbaceous perennial. Organic cultivation of this plant should be a high priority. It has been severely overharvested in its natural habitat. Likes a shady moist location preferably under a canopy of hardwood trees, but any shade will work. Hardy to zone 4.

Gotu Kola (Hydrocotyl asiatica)
An important Ayurvedic herb which increases mental clarity and longevity. It is also very good for helping to heal ulcerations, eczema, psoriasis, leprosy and nervous disorders. It promotes rapid and healthy growth of skin, hair and nails. Often eaten as a salad green It is a tropical perennial. Spreads readily forming a dense mat. Hardy to zone 8.

Greek Mountain Tea (Sideritis syriaca)
A traditional tea consumed throughout Greece to treat the common cold. Sold in dried form in most Greek markets worldwide. Sideritis species have proven anti-inflammatory properties. Research into anti-arthritic and antimicrobial uses is ongoing. In the wild, plants thrive on sunny, rocky, dry hillsides. They have very attractive gray-woolly leaves. Hardy to zone 8.

This is the mullein to grow for flower production. The plant sends up multiple huge stalks weighted heavily with yellow blooms. Much easier to gather from than other varieties and extremely showy in the garden. Seems to be a bit more adaptable to soggy soils as well. Easy to grow. Greek Valerian (Polemonium caeruleum)
Jacobs ladder. This plant is native to the temperate areas of Europe and is found naturalized near woodland streams and swamps. This hardy perennial reaches a height of up to 2 feet with cup shaped purplish flowers and foliage reminiscent of Valerian. It prefers a well drained site with partial shade. Cats find the scent of this plant extremely attractive and may cause damage in their enthusiasm. Historically, Greek Valerian was used in Ancient Greece for treating toothaches, animal bites, and dysentary. It was later used during the 19th Century for treatment of syphilis, headaches, fevers and epilepsy. More recently, the plant has been used for its scent in potpourri and can be boiled in olive oil for a black hair dye. It is often grown as an ornamental for its attractive flowers. Easy to grow and readily self sows. Hardy to zone 2.

Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
The benefits of green tea and all of its antioxidants and beneficial minerals are almost too numerous to mention. This is the true tea plant where all green and black tea comes from. Single fragrant white or pink flowers are produced October through December. We offer clones from our own stock of the vigorous grower"Tea Breeze" with white flowers and shiny dark green leaves. Like other camellias, tea plants prefer an acidic soil and part shade in hot summer areas. Hardy to zone 6.
