This plant, an Eastern North American native, has been used as an excellent remedy for colds and intermittent fever, especially flu with body aches. Medical evidence suggests that it enhances the immune system. It is not recommended for long term use. Easy to grow, it appreciates part shade in hot summer climates and likes to be watered frequently. Pretty green textured leaves give way to white umbel shaped flowers. Harvest and use flowering tops and leaves for tea or tincturing. Hardy to Zone 4.

A tropical perennial that is native to Eastern India. It is a greatly respected memory enhancing herb, nerve, and cardiac tonic. Used in India for nervous breakdown, epilepsy and insanity. The fresh juice can help with respiratory conditions, usually used fresh or in a tea. Brahmi is a succulent leaved, fast growing, creeping herb, which likes moist, humid areas and partial shade. Easy to grow in pots with delicate little white flowers. Not hardy. Will over winter in greenhouse or as house plant.

Chai Hu. Important ingredient in Chinese formulas for the health of the liver and circulatory systems. Bitter roots of the plant help moderate unstable emotions due to a sluggish liver. Also useful for abdominal bloating, menstrual pain, hemorrhoids and respiratory conditions. Attractive feathery member of the parsley family. Hardy to zone 4.

The large taproots of this plant has significant blood purifying properties. Traditionally taken internally for staph infections, impetigo and other skin infections. It has also been used to treat eczema, used both externally and internally. In Japan, China, and Korea, Burdock or Gobo, is a commonly used medicinal food. The root is steamed, stir-fried and cooked into stews. It also makes a tasty herbal vinegar. An excellent tonic safe for daily use. Recent medical evidence supports use for tumors. This is one of four herbs in the Essiac anti-cancer formulas. Very easy to grow and likes a deep soil for best root production. Roots are dug in fall. Dig before plant sets seed. Hardy to zone 5.

Tea made from the dried bark of the root or the leaves calms digestion and dispels heat. Externally, it is helpful for skin diseases and fungal infections. It is a slow growing plant reaching about 4 feet tall with lemon scented flowers. Hardy to zone 9.

Western Coltsfoot Native to moist shady areas of western North America the root and leaf are used for respiratory complaints such as bronchitis, asthma and general sinus trouble.Traditionally used as a remedy for whooping cough. Clinical studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of migraines. Prefers a wet and shaded location. The large green leaves have a tropical look to them. Hardy perennial to zone 4.
